Maintaining the shine and brilliance of your crystal chandelier is a must. Although you don’t need to regularly clean the furniture, simply scheduling the maintenance every six or nine months is enough. But if you’re like other homeowners, you can definitely clean the furniture every few months. Here are some methods to help you clean it safely and effectively.
By using a white glove
The white glove method doesn’t require you to remove all the crystals of the chandelier. You start by preparing a cleaning solution for the crystal chandelier. The solution should be three parts distilled water and one par isopropyl alcohol. You can put the solution in a spray bottle for easy usage.
After donning on a pair of white cotton gloves, spray one glove with the cleaning solution while keep the other one dry. Use the sprayed glove to caress on the crystal and immediately wipe it by using the dry glove. It is important not to use any cleaning fluids for this method. Some of these cleaning solutions may contain ammonia that can ruin the finish of the chandelier.
Removing the crystals
If it’s been long since you last cleaned the crystal chandelier, the crystal removal method may be more applicable. There are, however, some furniture pieces that can only be cleaned by removing the trim. If you’re not sure about this one, it is helpful to turn to your trim diagram before removing the crystal. This way, you’ll know exactly how to reassemble the piece after cleaning it.
What you need is a cleaning solution, containing lukewarm water and mild soap. Use the sudsy water to clean the crystals. After which, rinse them thoroughly and use a soft cloth for drying. Remember to wear gloves when reassembling the chandelier in order to ensure that there will be no further grime or dirt.
When cleaning your chandelier, remember to use a blanket or towel underneath. This will ensure the safety of the furniture when you’re dislodging a piece of crystal from it. Furthermore, try not to rotate the chandelier when cleaning, especially if you’re using the white glove method. Rotating the furniture can loosen the support and cause it to fall. Instead, move the ladder around and clean the furniture by sections.
Lastly, don’t forget to also clean the light bulbs of your crystal chandelier. Remember, though, to wait for them to cool and never touch them with anything wet to prevent them from shattering.
